Editorial process

Escribanía manages all submissions through Open Journal Systems (OJS), a platform that guarantees full traceability of the editorial process. Each registered author can consult the status of their manuscript in real time through their personal profile: reception, editorial assignment, peer review process, and final decision (acceptance, required revisions, or rejection). Additionally, the journal notifies authors by email of every status change, leaving written evidence of the reasons for the editorial decision. This system constitutes the historical repository of the editorial process required by indexing criteria.

The editorial process includes article reception, peer review, copyediting, layout design, and publication. This process may take between 150 and 240 days, although these deadlines may sometimes be extended due to conditions external to the journal.

For All Articles

Phase 1: Initial Review

All articles must attach the copyright declaration. At this stage, articles are also reviewed to ensure they align with the focus of Escribanía Journal, and the manuscript is submitted to anti-plagiarism software (Turnitin) to determine its originality. If the manuscript or documentation does not meet all required criteria, it will be rejected.

Estimated time: 15 to 30 days.
(See the author guidelines section.)

If the submission meets the above requirements, the article proceeds to Phase 2: Evaluation.

For Peer-Reviewed Articles

Phase 2: External Evaluation

The journal will assign two reviewers under a double-blind peer review system (anonymity for both authors and reviewers). External academic reviewers (national or international) issue their evaluation of the article using the evaluation form established by Escribanía Journal.

In the event of disagreement between reviewers, a new round of evaluation will be conducted, or the journal coordinator may determine the final decision:

  • Approved. The article requires minor corrections and will be returned to the author, who will have one week to implement the suggested changes.
  • Approved with changes. The article may require substantial modifications that do not compromise its purpose. It will be returned to the author, who will have between two and three weeks to make the required changes.
  • Rejected. The article does not align with the journal’s focus or lacks epistemological development. In this case, the author may not submit another article until one year later.

Estimated time: 30 to 60 days.

Phase 3: Revisions, Corrections, and Layout Design

Authors must make the required changes and highlight them in the document. Once the revised article is returned, it will undergo copyediting by the journal. The article may be returned again to the authors for minor adjustments related to form and style. Afterward, it will proceed to the first stage of layout design.

Estimated time: 20 to 45 days.

Phase 4: Publication

Once the layout is approved by both the author and Escribanía Journal, the article will be published on the journal’s website.

Estimated time: 10 to 20 days.

Non-Peer-Reviewed Articles

Non-peer-reviewed articles do not undergo external evaluation. Instead, the internal team of Escribanía Journal reviews and either approves or rejects the manuscript within an estimated period of 20 to 40 days. The article then continues to Phases 3 and 4.
