- General Policies
1.1. Description and Scope
ESCRIBANÍA is a publication of the School of Social Communication and Journalism within the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at the University of Manizales, Colombia. It constitutes a medium for disseminating research advances and findings, as well as theoretical reflections, academic essays, and writings resulting from classroom reflection.
Currently, ESCRIBANÍA is in the third stage of its history and therefore invites national and international authors (professors, academics, researchers, students) interested in research, reflection, and interpretation in the field of communication and its connections with the social sciences and the humanities to submit their contributions to Revista ESCRIBANÍA, School of Social Communication and Journalism, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, University of Manizales – Manizales, Colombia. E-mail: escribania@umanizales.edu.co
Escribanía, by publishing original disciplinary and interdisciplinary works oriented toward knowledge transfer and academic debate, opens its pages not only to individuals interested in the production of theoretical research, but also to those engaged in reflection grounded in their personal and professional experience.
1.2 History: Third Stage
Beginning in 2019, Escribanía entered a new stage in its history. The School of Communication decided to merge its three academic print media outlets: Filo de Palabra (an internally circulated journal featuring faculty contributions), Hojalata (the School’s student virtual journal), and, of course, Escribanía (a journal interested in the circulation of specialized knowledge in the field of communication).
Accordingly, the journal maintains its original orientation while broadening its scope to include essayistic reflections, texts produced from classroom experience, and research-oriented works. From this point forward, in honor to the three journal sisters, we have established three sections entitled: Falsificadores, Afiladores, and Hojalateros. These sections are named in this way to emphasize all contributors who, through their diligent work, enable writing to remain grounded in its subject matter and to continue thriving today within the universe of digital ink.
Therefore, the journal will adopt a new tagline replacing the expression “Nueva época”, which referred to a second period in the history of the publication (and which itself had replaced the subtitle Comunicación, cultura y región from its first stage). Beginning this third phase, the tagline now reads: Tercera estación. We believe the word possesses a rich semantic dimension that suggests both spatial and temporal meanings. Derived from the Latin word statio, meaning permanence, it allows us to envision a journal that will endure over time (and, like the seasons that imply annual cycles, will continually renew itself). We also aspire, as in a station where one waits for a train journey, to sustain the vibrant movement of readers and writers who enjoy a particular place of stay (a meaning that, moreover, is also derived from the word Estación).
1.3. Publication Frequency
Escribanía is a semi-annual journal with broad circulation. It accepts articles in Spanish, Portuguese, and English (all articles will be published in both Spanish and English), derived from research and academic work, as well as reflections on the field of communication endorsed by university institutions, institutions linked to areas of interest, research centers, public entities, and private funding organizations. To access the journal’s content free of charge, please visit the website: https://revistasum.umanizales.edu.co/ojs/index.php/escribania
This journal maintains an open-access policy, free of charge, based on the principle of facilitating the circulation of knowledge in an accessible manner for its target audience, in order to promote the exchange and dissemination of knowledge.
1.4. Copyright
