Permanent change, crises in many fields and economic uncertainty motivate the development of studies to promote interdisciplinary work to accelerate solutions in health care. In this context, the research objective is to empirically test the validity of a theoretical knowledge management structure for translational research, to better understand innovation in health, without losing thought divergences or contribution to basic research. Through a case study, the results of the systematic review of the literature were integrated to carry out semi-structured interviews with researchers from a National Institute of Health in Mexico. Even with the limitations of the use of a single case, this has as its attributes the in-depth study of a complex phenomenon. As a result, the areas of opportunity for knowledge management were identified for each stage of translational research. Identifying as future research lines, the design of practices for each stage.
